The tunes are stored in this archive under three formats:
- The image files PNG are the music scores as you normally see them onyour display of for printing, .
- The MIDI files contains the tunes according to the MIDI standard for listening on you sound card
(the sound is very poor and can just give you an idea of the melody).
MIDI files are commonly accepted by music editing softwares.
- The MP3 files contains the tune I recorded myself(reproducing records is prohibited) in order
to listen to a real music interpretation. There are only a few MP3 available due to to amount of work needed.
The query form includes four fields to help you find the right tune:
- The title allows to type a full tilte or a part of it, the wird "tous" (all) removes all restrictions.
- The country allows the selection of a country of origin in a rop menu list (click o the arrow).
- The province allows a selection of the province in the drop list..
- The type allows the selection of a type of dance or melody in a drop list.
- The composer allows the selection of a composer (usually contemporary). The composers from this list all wanted their works remain in the public domain for ensuring a free access.
The expression "sans importance" (not important) remove all restriction in the drop list field.
Of course all these criteria are additive, and a too restrictive query mais not give any result.
On another hand a too loose query will produce a long list, which is time and space consumming.
At the moment, there is no logical link between the country and the province, therfore use your geography
knoledge for avoiding funny requests (Malochet, Bretagne, saltarelle).
The result of a query is displayed as a table with the title, the country, the province, the type,
followed by three cells that contain (if available) a button, that gives access to the PNG, MIDI or MP3 file.
The keywords the country, province and type names are in French, but it should not be too difficult to
understand.
Tricks and tips :
- Do not try to be too restrictive in your query, but try to be flexible on the title and add som other criteria
(i.e. Malochet, sans importance, sans importance, bourrée à deux temps).
- Use your browser capabilities for displaying, printing, playing, or saving the files on your hard disk.
- Do not spend too much tme saving files on your machine, the database will be there whenever you need it.
