Tournesol in the fields
TOURNESOL was born in 1985, CATHERINE and GEORGES were playing music for a weekly traditional dance
workshop. They decided to go a step ahead and formed a music band. SERGE joined in 1998, EMMANUELLE and
GILBERT arrived at the beginning of 2002, taking up with a family adventure again.
CATHERINE, EMMANUELE and GILBERT, having family links, formed a band in the early 90s: LIZHER GLIZH,
playing music from Brittany. Their roads separated later.
CATHERINE learnt hurdy-gurdy, and improved her practice in several styles and geographical areas,
following courses and workshops with A.-L. FOY, S. DURAND, A. BURY, P. BOUFFARD, D. CHAMPION,
C. TELLART, M. ANTHONY.
EMMANUELE and GILBERT specialised in Irish music.
EMMANUELE learnt fiddle, in particular with V. LEUTREAU.
GILBERT selected a four-string banjo and especially Irish bouzouki, well known in Celtic and Breton
music. They continue playing in TALIESIN abnd they created.
All three are together again today, with a lot of pleasure and good will to bring their separate experiences
for the group benefit.
GEORGES knows a diversified stock play, and a long musical practice experience: flute, guitar hurdy-gurdy,
and especially diatonic and chromatic accordions, which are now his favourite instruments after workshops with
F. HEIM.
SERGE danced in Breton and Irish groups during almost 10 years, then he learnt bodhran at the CENTRE de
MUSIQUE IRLANDAISE in Paris. Folowing a workshop with M. DI NAPOLI, he selected djembe and small
percussion instruments.
The stock play is made of selected tunes with musical and rythm quality, in order to keep the dance tradition
and the region style. Danced are mainly from Centre of France, Brittany, South-West of France and more.
